Gillian Perry MBE is an author, lecturer and broadcaster on the social history of tea drinking and afternoon tea. She is the official heritage adviser to The Tea Group, and reviews afternoon teas for the luxury travel magazine, Beau Monde Traveller. This lecture will cover the rise of tea drinking in Europe and the US, how afternoon tea became a social institution, the provenance of favourite tea menu items, customs and etiquette, examples of the finest silver and china tea ware, tea gowns and their risqué connotations, and the current nostalgic popularity of vintage afternoon teas.
